Kelli Stopczynski

By Jerry Siefring

Kelli joined WSBT News in 2006. A true “Midwest Gal”, the opportunity to continue her career at WSBT was one she couldn't pass up.  Before joining the Local News Leader, Kelli was a photographer and reporter at WICD-TV in Champaign, Illinois.

The Fighting Irish are growing on her, but Fighting Illini football and basketball teams will always be Kelli's favorites.  She earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

Her favorite part of the job is being able to tell a new story every day.

"I love the connection I feel when I meet someone for the first time and am able to hear their story, then present that to our viewers honestly and completely.  It's such an important part of my job," Kelli said.

In 2009, Kelli was honored by the Indiana Associated Press for "Best Spot News Reporting" for her work covering a fire that destroyed Polito's Restaurant in Mishawaka. She also received an honorable mention as Indiana's best reporter.

When she’s not working, you can find her at the gym, out for a jog, hanging out on a Lake Michigan beach or on the phone with family and friends in her hometown of Springfield, Illinois. She’s also a HUGE St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Kelli lives in South Bend with her husband and their Chocolate Lab, Rammy.
