Rick Mecklenburg

By (BI) Jay LaPlante

You've probably heard on WSBT about Rick Mecklenburg's being "born in South Bend on the warmest day of the year." It's true -- Rick truly is a homegrown meteorologist. He spent much of his youth in South Bend and Niles, and because of it, nobody knows the area better than Rick.

Do you know where Tiosa, Indiana, is, or that there is also a LaGrange in Michigan? Rick does. In fact, chances are you won't be able to find a place in Michiana that Rick hasn't heard of. He knows the area, and he knows the challenges of forecasting the weather around here.

Rick began working at WSBT in 1996. He became Chief Meteorologist in 1998, and he said that working in his hometown is a “dream come true”. Rick plans to be at WSBT for a very long time, or at least as long as Cindy Ward will put up with his practical jokes.

Rick is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association, and holds their seals of approval as well.
