(SBT24/7 News) A fire shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday had South Bend crews busy in the 300 block of Hamden Court on the city's near west side.

The fire was reportedly called in by a passer-by, who saw smoke coming from the building. City officials believed the structure was occupied at the time, but there were no casualties.

Fire struck earlier at an address in the 400 block of West Madison Street, where the blaze was reported before midnight. Few details were available on that fire, but South Bend dispatchers said the heavily damaged home was vacant.
