(WSBT) For the second time this year in Goshen, fire has heavily damaged a Hispanic grocery store.

Goshen firefighters were called to the San Marcos Grocery Store and Restaurant around 5 a.m. Friday.

While the building didn't burn to the ground, the fire did destroy everything inside.

Investigators are not sure yet what started it. Goshen Police are assisting firefighters in the investigation.

Family members are having a hard time believing what happened.

“Right now we're sad,” said Michelle Esqueda, the owner’s daughter. “It’s devastating because we've been in business for almost nine years and then this had to happen. We're just sad because nothing has happened like this before."

Early on firefighters were focusing on containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to other nearby businesses.

That included the Goshen Antique Mall and an insurance company.

"The guys just did a tremendous job in aggressively attacking the fire and keeping it from translating to the other buildings on either side,” said Chief Dan Sink of the Goshen Fire Department.

"I am very thankful to the fire department for all they did to keep it from coming through,” said Shari Nofziger of the Goshen Antique Mall. “Our situation could have been much worse this morning than some smoke damage.”

The owners of the San Marcos store plan to continue the business.

“We’re not sure,” said Esqueda. “We still have to talk about things. But we probably will be back in business.”

Investigators have not determined how the fire started.
