Cat Owner Mourning Loss of Pet From Tainted Food

By Ed Ernstes (ernstes@wsbt.com)

(WSBT) The nationwide pet food recall is causing heartache for one Elkhart pet owner.

Sandy Lambert lost one cat who ate suspected tainted food, and another nearly died from it.

Lambert’s cat, Tippy, ate the affected pet foods. She took her to the vet when she started getting sick.

Tests concluded Tippy had kidney failure, and Sandy had to make the difficult decision of putting her to sleep.

“And I had her for eight years and how do you put a price, on the costs of an animal, that you have had that long,” Lambert told WSBT News. “There's no way...you can't put...they're like part of your family.”

Lambert’s other cat developed the same symptoms, but early testing caught it in time. That cat is now recovering.
