Porter Township Fire Department Seeks Millage Increase

By Beth Boehne

(WSBT) Another township fire department is struggling financially, and wants a millage increase to help.

The Porter Township Fire Department in Union, Mich. needs funding for their ambulances, staff and fire trucks.

They need to replace the only water-carrying truck because it's leaking badly and they have to refill it every day.

"Do you want me to come with 3,000 gallons of water or do you want me to come with none?” asked Jerry Myers, a firefighter and EMT. “Bottom line is we don't have the equipment to do your job to protect your life as well as we'd like to."

They'll have a public meeting to discuss the upcoming millage funding vote. The meeting is Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Porter Fire Station.

The vote is Tuesday, August 7 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
