Gas prices in Aberdeen have increased by 60 cents per gallon since the beginning of January.

The price of gasoline spiked up yet again Thursday. The price of unleaded gasoline with 10 percent ethanol was $3.69 a gallon and regular gasoline was $3.79 a gallon Friday.

The price of the 10 percent ethanol blend was about $3 a gallon at the beginning of January.

The average price of regular unleaded gasoline in South Dakota is about $3.65, according to a release from the AAA. The highest average price per gallon of gasoline without ethanol in South Dakota is in Pierre at $3.88; the lowest is in Rapid City ($3.31), according to the release.

In Sioux Falls, regular gas is $3.75 per gallon and $3.74 per gallon in Webster.

Gas prices have been skyrocketing throughout the country, according to the AAA. South Dakota has the 13th lowest average price for gasoline despite the sharp price increases, according to the release.

Of the 48 contiguous states, Wyoming and California have the lowest and highest average prices at $3.23 and $4.22 per gallon, respectively.

Gas prices, mileage

 According to the AAA:

• Testing by the Environmental Protection Agency showed fuel additives do not increase gas mileage.

• A one-day boycott on gasoline will not affect pump prices because at some point people need more fuel and a single day does not have a major impact on a gas station.

• Over-inflating tires doesn't decrease gas mileage. All it does is increase wear on tires and reduce a vehicle's handling.
