ELKHART ― It’s something straight out of the 70s, but a local company is putting a new twist on it. Remember the Mork and Mindy egg chair? Well, it’s back.

It's a chair that's been around for decades. But it’s louder than ever.

“It's an acoustical sound chair that allows you to sit in and listen to music or movies or gaming in 5.1 Dolby surround sound,” said Douglas Cochran, vice president of Acousticom in Elkhart.

It's 5 speakers and 10-inch sub woofer makes your movie, music or gaming experience a unique one.

“For some people they’re used to just listening to the sound out of their speaker on a TV, sort of a monotone sound, and this way it actually allows you to live the experience,” added Cochran.

Acousticom originally used the chair for demonstrations at trade shows. They recently decided to take it a step further.

“A lot of people said to us, ‘Well, it would be really neat if I could buy one of those for my home use,’” Cochran went on to say.

For parents who don't like listening to those video games, or spouses who couldn't care less about the football game, these chairs keep the ones grabbing a seat from disturbing the rest of the house.

“It becomes an individual home theater system,” Cochran said.

It’s still unknown if this chair will mean new jobs for the area. It all depends on how many orders are made. The Sound Egg is already available at a price tag of $1,450. But they'll officially release it in January at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
