Three teens carjacked an 87-year-old man early this morning in an Evanston parking lot, and police later found the vehicle on Chicago's South Side.
The man had fallen asleep in his vehicle in the parking lot of a food store at 2485 Howard Street and was awakened about 2:15 a.m. by a male teen knocking on his window, police said in a news release.
Two other male teens joined the first one, and the three physically pulled the man from the vehicle and kept his keys, police said. He was not injured during the attack.
The teens drove the vehicle out of the lot, and it was later recovered by Illinois State Police, abandoned with minor damage near the intersection of Interstate 94 and Interstate 55 on Chicago's South Side, police said.
A description of the suspects and the vehicle was distributed to law enforcement agencies but was not publicly released at this time as police continued to investigate. No arrests had been made as of Saturday afternoon.
