MISHAWAKA -- Shopping in Indiana will soon cost you a little more money. Starting Tuesday, the state's sales tax will increase from 6 percent to 7 percent. This is part of Indiana's new property tax relief plan. The increase is forcing consumers to make some last minute purchases.

With two kids, capturing those memorable moments is important to Criselda Steere. That's why she's been eying a new camcorder.

"I haven't really decided, but I'm looking at one in particular," said Steere.

She may want to decide soon. Starting Tuesday, Indiana's sales tax will increase by one percent.

"I completely forgot about that," said Steere.

We found others who simply weren't even aware of it.

"This is first news to me ... got it from you. Yeah, I didn't know that," said consumer Derrick Dotson.

But for those who do know, they're not wasting any time, especially when it comes to buying big ticket items like appliances.

"I talked to five customers yesterday that were trying to beat the tax increase," said Best Buy Appliance Specialist Floyd Heroy.

While Best Buy isn't offering any special deals because of the increase they say just mentioning it helps sway those customers who may be on the fence.

"I'd say well, you can save another $50 by buying it right now, as opposed to waiting until next week," said Heroy.

Waiting is something many consumers are starting to reconsider.

"One percent, I guess isn't huge in the grand scheme of things. But if you're buying a larger ticket item then I'm sure, yeah we would consider buying before hand,” said consumer John Howard.

Cars are another big ticket item people are cashing in on right now. For example, on a $40,000 car, you can save $400 by buying before the increase.

Gee, I'd hate to be standing at a checkout lane at WAL-Mart at 11:45PM tonight. I'll bet the lines will be horrific. Speaking of Horrific, has anyone heard that Mitch Daniels is making a run for re-election? Now who's more stupider here, him for thinking he's has a snowballs chance in hell of re-election or us, because we put him there once and he knows we'll do it again. Freeze property taxes, cut services, raise sales tax and by the way, anyone care to take a ride down the toll road? Wake up!

Hey Bobby, I did my homework, I researched, I investigated, verified, clarified and rectified all misgivings I had about the candidates and then like every one else, I voted for the lesser of the two evils.(The guy who didn't win). and you know what? I still got boned! Next time I'm doing it right and flipping a coin!

Let this be an eye opener...please read your homework on who you vote for. For those who don't vote.....please go out there, it only takes a few minutes. We are fortunate to have freedom of choice in this country.

Ed has it right on the money. Here comes a real deep recession. Everything you buy from now on, in Indiana, puts the extra tax charge in the Daniels and the boys pockets. Greed will destroy ya.

I'm not going to rush to buy anything. I will just buy online from vendors without tax or from neighboring states that charge less tax. All the clowns in Indy did was cost Indiana businesses a lot of business. The only ones that benefit from this are the ones with $300,000 and up homes. the average middle class and under will save $200-$300 in property taxes and spend an additional $300 and up in sales tax. Daniels and the boys screwed us again and many of you asked for it. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
