SOUTH BEND — If you went shopping today and looked at your receipts you may have noticed the sales tax increase that went into effect April 1.

The 1 percent increase in Indiana is part of the property tax relief plan.

But most shoppers say the slight jump will not affect them or their pocket books.

"Personally, I don't plan a high ticket item buy in the near future. So until that happens it is probably not going to impact me a whole lot,” said Elaine Baldini. “Of course it will penny at a time. But it's not a big deal."

The tax increase is expected to bring in an estimated $620 million this year alone.
