The beginning of the week started with more record oil and gas prices.

Instead of waiting for the politicians, oil companies, or OPEC for a solution, a conservation group says there are simple things you can do in the meantime to curb energy use.

The Alliance to Save Energy has launched a campaign with environmental groups and the oil industry.

The group reminds car owners they can use less oil by driving five percent less, keeping tires inflated, and driving slower.

By following those three steps, the Alliance to Save Energy says Americans would save 1.3 million barrels a day.

According to the government's Energy Information Administration, that amount is twice the amount of oil that would come from Alaska's Arctic Wildlife Refuge each day.
