INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana is getting more than $200 million in federal stimulus funding to weatherize the homes of low-income residents and develop renewable energy projects.

The $200.4 million is part of nearly $8 billion in stimulus funding set aside nationwide for energy efficiency and related efforts.

About $132 million will help low-income Indiana residents insulate their homes and modernize heating and air conditioning equipment to both save energy and lower their utility bills.

The funds will allow an average investment of up to $6,500 per home in energy efficiency upgrades. Families that make up to twice the federal poverty level are eligible for the money.

Some $69 million will go to the State Energy Program for renewable energy projects, energy efficiency upgrades for government buildings and other programs.
