INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Mitch Daniels says Indiana's $132 million share of federal stimulus funds for weatherizing homes will benefit more than 30,000 low-income Hoosier households.

The money will pay to insulate and upgrade heating and cooling equipment in the homes of low-income residents already receiving state energy assistance.

The goal is to help those residents save both energy and lower their utility bills.

Daniels says the money will be on a first-come, first-serve basis following energy audits and inspections of eligible homes.

The first half of Indiana's energy efficiency funding will be released in the coming days, followed later by the second half. All of the money must be spent by Sept. 30, 2010.
