The left tackle got some much-needed help as offensive coordinator Mike Tice opted not to leave Webb on an island. Running back Kahlil Bell helped double-team Quinn on one play, while Bell chipped Quinn on another. Center Roberto Garza and tight end Matt Spaeth also assisted Webb for a snap.
New starting left guard Chilo Rachal was solid in his offensive line debut, but Rachal also picked up two false starts that he called "inexcusable'' penalties.
Cutler, however, had Rachal's back.
"I thought he settled down,'' Cutler said. "One of (the false starts) wasn't his fault — I think both of them weren't. I held the count a little bit the second time. I think (Garza) made a little mistake in there and he jumped again.
"Chilo brings that edge to the offensive line and he doesn't take a lot of grief in there. … He's kind of a mauler, and I feel comfortable with him in there.''
Rachal jawed with Rams defenders after a couple of plays.
"St. Louis? I wouldn't necessarily label them dirty because I'm on the line (and) I don't get to see everything,'' Rachal said. "But they talk a lot of trash.''
Cutler, who was sacked seven times in Green Bay, was sacked twice Sunday. He did a better job getting the ball out quickly, and the offense had more balance with 34 running plays and 31 pass attempts.
Foul play: Defensive co-captain Julius Peppers was whistled for a personal foul for hitting Rams running back Daryl Richardson after a play. The veteran defensive end said he didn't hear the whistle and Richardson got up and tried to run, "so I finished the play."
The penalty occurred after a third-down stop and allowed the Rams to keep the ball. But the Rams squandered the opportunity, as Peppers and Israel Idonije combined for a sack of Sam Bradford to end the drive.
Extra points: Rookie fullback Evan Rodriguez, who cleared some holes for Michael Bush early in the game, exited in first half with a knee injury and did not return. ... Lance Briggs was credited with a team-high seven tackles, including a punishing hit on Rams receiver Danny Amendola. … With his 54-yard field goal Sunday, Robbie Gould has connected on his last nine field-goal attempts of 50-plus yards. … The inactives for the Bears included Matt Forte (ankle), Dane Sanzenbacher, Edwin Williams, Matt Toeaina, Jon Scott, Nick Collins and Cheta Ozougwu.
