LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Tuesday's election saw the third-highest turnout for a presidential primary in Michigan history.

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land says nearly 1.5 million voters went to the polls. That's a turnout of almost 21 percent.

The state's highest presidential primary turnout came in 1972, when more than 1.9 million people voted. The second-highest turnout was in 1976, when more than 1.7 million cast ballots.

Democratic and Republican candidates were on the ballot in all three elections.

In the 2000 Republican-only presidential primary, 1.4 million people voted.

Michigan has more than 7 million registered voters.
