Butler student rebuffed by Chelsea Clinton says he likes her mom

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The college student who got a stinging brushback from Chelsea Clinton when he asked about the Monica Lewinsky scandal said Wednesday he's a Clinton supporter who was trying to get her to show "what makes Hillary so strong."

Evan Strange, a Butler University student who works on the school's newspaper, The Butler Collegian, said he had asked Chelsea Clinton her opinion "on the criticism of her mother that how she handled the Lewinsky scandal might be a sign of weakness and she might not be a strong enough candidate to be president."

It wasn't clear what aspect of the former first lady's actions he was referring to. Before she was fully aware of President Bill Clinton's relationship with Lewinsky, Hillary Rodham Clinton said allegations about her husband and the White House intern were manufactured by a "vast right-wing conspiracy."

Strange's question at Chelsea Clinton's appearance Tuesday at the school brought a stinging rebuke from Clinton's daughter. "Wow, you're the first person actually that's ever asked me that question in the, I don't know maybe, 70 college campuses I've now been to, and I do not think that is any of your business," Chelsea Clinton said during the campaign visit for her mother.

"I'm a supporter of Hillary. I love Hillary," Strange said Wednesday on CBS' "The Early Show." He said he asked the question because his friends "always bring up that scandal. It's not something I asked to cause trouble but to show those people what makes Hillary so strong."

He said that by brushing him off, Chelsea Clinton missed an opportunity to show her mother's strength.

"I was very surprised" at the rebuke, Strange said. "I can see where she'd get a little defensive because of the question and hearing Lewinsky over and over again, but I would like to hear her say something about Hillary rather than dismissing the question."

The way that I see it,we've had enough of the Clintonian's,nothing but lies, decept, scandals etc. They are not only undeserving of being allowed in the White house. But without a snowballs chance in a microwave of getting elected again..the majority has already spoken! "B-illery", is just too ignorant to realize it,and too stubborn to give up the money that "he-she" is making as they keep going until June 3rd.Hmmm,sounds just like Gore..be smart enough to realize it will be between McCain/Obama..

Most guys won't admit how much they'd like a woman like her. You can have all the affairs you want and she'll still "Stand By Her Man"!

I think the all of the Clinton's are shady and have embarrassed the nation in the past and will continue to do so if Hillary is elected. This family is more concerned with power and control than the well being of the USA. That's why she "forgave Bill" for his affair and lying about it - she knew that a highly publicized divorce would effect any futuristic chances of her running for office.. No morals in the Clintons! Hey, journalist - keep asking those hard questions, hopefully they will quit!

I think it is a very relevant question. I am very concerend of Bill being in the White House again. How can the leader of our country be properly focused on her duties when she has her husband "over here" galavanting around doing God knows what. It became everyone's business when he LIED to the American people about his personal issues that YES HAD TO AFFECT all other aspects of his life, including his JOB DUTIES as the President of the United States.

When you hold a public office, your life becomes public. Would you feel the same if he would have been a member of the KKK or his family was part of the Nazi party back in the 40's. If you don't want people snooping in your dirty laundry, then you better keep it clean. That question was legit and she should have answered it. Firt Hilary lied about being fired at by snipers and now her character just took another hit. The lies continue. Must run in the family.

President or ex-president. The personal life of any family, regardless of the public eye, should be between that family and no one has the right to put their nose in someone elses business. How would you like someone nosing in your personal life? You don't get to be an adult without making stupid mistakes and some of those mistakes effect the ones you love. Let it go, people. Hillary forgave her husband for his stupidity and moved on. America should do the same.

I think that it should be pointed out that perhaps the reason why he did not get a "professional" answer is because at the end of the day this was a daughter speaking of her mother, and was asked something very personal and painful. Public scandels involve the lives of real people, they are not sitcoms. It should also be reflected upon that if you want a "professional" answer, you should start by asking a "professional" question.

This was a legitimate question. Mr. Strange did not ask for personal details about the scandal. He asked Chelsea’s opinion concerning the affect the scandal may have on her mother's credibility as a presidential candidate. How is that offensive? I think the question made her anxious. She gave a defensive answer, not a professional one.

I think that was a GREAT question! And of course it brought out a typical Clinton answer! Especially when there wasn't a pre-planned,rehearsed answer LOL! And Tom, just to let you know Evan wasn't speaking to the daughter of the "president of the United States". This due to the fact that her father is the "FORMER president of the United States", and that from him embarrassing himself, his family and his country! By the constant lying etc. in regard to his affair(s). Good ridance, Clinton family!

Just goes to show that there are some journalists who are class acts and some who are not. This guy clearly ranks up there in the "classless" category. Perhaps he could have phrased his question differently to get the response that he sought.

When you use a public office building to satisfy your sexual desires and you are the top ranking official in the country and you allow the situ-ation to drag on and on in the public arena, I guess it becomes a public curiosity. Chelsea, if you are compaigning for your mother, I would think that you would have prepared yourself for someone to bring up this past event. Obviously you didn't and so you were not prepared to answer graciously and move on. Barak has his pastor and Hillary has Bill.

Part of the problem is that it doesn't matter "what you mean", or what your intention was. The fact of the matter is that in public you asked the daughter of the President of the United States of America what she thought about an affair her father had. Then you go on to state that you were surprised by her actions. Really?
