INDIANAPOLIS (AP) ‐ Former Indiana Rep. John Brademas is endorsing Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.

Brademas represented the South Bend area in Congress for 22 years until the Democrat lost his seat in the 1980 election. He later spent 11 years as the president of New York University.

Brademas said in a statement released Thursday by Clinton's campaign that he was confident that Clinton had the intelligence, integrity and experience to jumpstart the economy and put the country on the right track.

Brademas was a leader on education issues during his time in Congress. He also was the majority whip -- the No. 3 position in the House -- for four years in Congress.
