SOUTH BEND — Ethel Kennedy, whose husband, Robert, campaigned for president here 40 years ago, will visit South Bend on Saturday, including the University of Notre Dame.

She'll be stumping on behalf of Sen. Barack Obama, the Illinois Democrat seeking his party's nomination for president.

Kennedy, and her son, Max, will be at the West Side Democratic and Civic Club about 1:15 p.m. Saturday, the Obama campaign announced Wednesday.

Notre Dame announced Thursday that she will speak at a closed event on campus at 2 p.m. that day. The talk by Mrs. Kennedy is open to students, faculty and staff from Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s College, Holy Cross College, Indiana University South Bend, Bethel College and Ivy Tech.

The West Side Democratic and Civic Club is at 617 S. Warren St. in South Bend. Doors open at noon for the event, which is free and open to the public.

Other members of the Robert and Ethel Kennedy family, including their daughter, former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, have endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton for president.
