GARY, Ind. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky is endorsing Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination for president.

The Merrillville Democrat becomes the seventh Indiana superdelegate to endorse Obama.

In a statement Wednesday, Visclosky says Obama "promises to bring Americans together."

Visclosky represents much of northwestern Indiana, just over the border from Chicago, where Obama lives.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Joe Donnelly of South Bend announced his support for Obama on Tuesday.

Hillary Rodham Clinton is being backed by Sen. Evan Bayh and three other Indiana superdelegates. Only Rep. Brad Ellsworth of Evansville remains uncommitted.

Unofficial calculations by The Associated Press show Clinton won 38 pledged delegates in last week's Indiana primary and Obama won 34.
