ST. JOSEPH CO. — With just five days left to register to vote for the November election county workers say they are swamped.
Wednesday morning staff inside the voter registration office sorted through and processed thousands of incoming applications.
"So we are coming in early and staying late and we are all showing the wear and tear, but basically it's going very well," says Linda Silcott. Silcott says 3,000 more people have registered to vote for the general election than the primary.
"I really do think there will be a high voter turnout," she said.
Lisa Plencner, the president of the League of Women Voters in South Bend, says the organization's voter registration drives have been hugely successful.
"This election season is really exciting. We've had more requests for assistance in voter registration events than we have had in any years past," says Plencner.
For voters who still need to register, Silcott says you can fill out an application at the County City Building in downtown South Bend, at the County Services Building in Mishawaka, or you can pick up an application at local libraries.
