How much respect do political candidates receive?

We entrust politicians to make some of the most important decisions that affect our lives. But do we respect the people we elect? A new poll found it depends on the candidate.

On the presidential circuit, 22 percent of people polled said they have the highest respect for Barack Obama, 13 percent said the same of John McCain, and 12 percent for President George Bush.

Compare that to a quarter of respondents who had no respect for Obama, 18 percent had no respect for McCain, and 37 percent said they don't respect President Bush.

In the race for governor, Mitch Daniels far outpaced competitor Jill Long Thompson when it came to people who said they had the highest respect for him. But a slightly higher percentage said they had no respect for the governor.
