UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio (AP) — A brick wall on an Ohio home has been defaced with the message "Death Obama."

It was spray-painted on early Wednesday near a yard sign for Democrat Barack Obama outside Lisa Carroll's house in the Columbus suburb of Upper Arlington.

Carroll says it's a sad day when a citizen can't express support for a presidential candidate without fear of persecution, intimidation or retaliation.

Police are investigating. They say they're not aware of any other incidents.

Local Democratic and Republican leaders are united in their disgust over the vandalism. County Democratic Party Zach Manifold calls it shocking and pretty scary. His Republican counterpart, Brad Sinnott, says it's "hooliganism" having nothing to do with politics.

vandalism is wrong, but this is so bizarre. usually its the immature left-raised children doing the extreme stuff. it must just be mindless vandalism. were there windows broken or suspects caught trying to bomb the convention? maybe deep down americans are scared to have the left machine in the whitehouse again

I've seen the same thing down here (South bend indiana). People are afraid of putting Obama signs in their yards. I've seen signs vandalised and I'm a black republican.In .... I've had my car windows broken for supporting republicans....It goes both ways.

Not surprised....sadly enough. Republicans cannot just disagree, they have to attack. Which we say in the convention last night. And yes, I used to be a republican but could not stand that trait in them when I was one of them. It has just gotten worse.
