Here is a news release issued Wednesday night by St. Joseph County Republican Party Executive Director Jake Teshka on the controversial comments by GOP Senate candidate Richard Mourdock at Tuesday night's debate with Joe Donnelly and Andrew Horning:
All -
Some of you have called regarding the U.S. Senate Debate last night. We will not be giving an extensive statement on this issue. The following should be attributed to me. Unlike the local Democrats, we have much better things to do than roll around in the mud. So, we will not be holding a press conference or appear on camera in regards to this issue.
The St. Joseph County Republican Party stands firmly with Richard Mourdock and with a vast majority of Hoosiers who believe that life begins at conception and that ALL life is precious and valuable. Joe Donnelly and the Democrats know as well as we do that Richard Mourdock does not condone rape, nor does he believe that God condones rape. To suggest such a thing is disgusting. The St. Joseph County Democrat Party is grandstanding on a very delicate and sensitive issue and that is abhorrent. It is unfortunate that some have misinterpreted Mr. Mourdock's comments during last night's debate. It is even more unfortunate that the Democrat party and Congressman Joe Donnelly see fit to mock a man's faith and twist his words to form attack ads. Richard Mourdock is principled. We need more principle in Washington.
I would direct you for any further comment to the Mourdock Campaign. Please find below a statement that was released by the campaign earlier in the day and the contact information for their communications department.
