Two charter school companies are $1 million richer as they look to expand their reach in Indianapolis.
The Mind Trust awarded the money to Phalen Leadership Academy and Christel House Academy Monday.
The money comes from the Mind Trust's Charter School Incubator.
Phalen Academy will open its first k-12 school next year, with five more schools in the works. Right now that charter school only offers a summer school program and combines online learning with the classroom.
"The adaptive software is great because you get daily feedback on how scholars are progressing, so are they mastering the basic math concepts, are they mastering the basic literacy concepts?” said Earl Martin Phalen, CEO Phalen Leadership Academy.
The other award winner, the Christel House Academy, opened its first charter school in Indianapolis in 2001. They plan on opening an adult school this fall followed by more k-12 schools.
