Two people were killed when a Remos GX plane crashed at a Noblesville golf course Thursday afternoon.
The Noblesville Fire Department along with Noblesville Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Roxbury Lane and Oxford Drive in the North Harbour Addition at 5:07 p.m.
The aircraft was only occupied with two people. The plane was registered to a corporation out of Lynwood, Illinois.
Witnesses on the ground told police they had observed the aircraft flying around in circles at a low altitude just prior to the crash.
Neighbors told Fox59 News that one of the victims killed in the plane crash is a college student whose parents live just a few houses down from where the crash happened.
"We just heard kind of a huge kind of explosion. Like a boom kind of thing," said Eric Mercer, who lives nearby.
"All of a sudden I heard this big whomp," said Frank Bereitschaft. "It was like a big crash."
Though that sound was startling, Bereitschaft said it did not come close to the sight of the plane.
"You only see golf carts and golfers out there. This time there was an airplane sitting out here," Bereitschaft said.
The first neighbor who rushed to the airplane, pulled back one of the wings and tried to pull out one of the victims, but he said they were already dead.
Neighbors said the plane appeared to be on a leisurely flight that looped over the area prior to the crash.
"Small aircraft come over here all the time because of the lake. I guess it's scenic and nice," Bereitschaft said.
Though the NTSB is still trying to determine exactly what went wrong, witnesses told police the plane appeared to be flying just fine until moments before the crash.
"The accounts that we're getting so far is that the airplane made a nose dive to its current location where it's at right now," said Lieutenant Bruce Barnes with the Noblesville Police Deparment.
"It could have easily gone on any of these homes here," Bereitschaft said.
Though many are thankful the plane itself didn't hit any homes, mourners were on hand well before the coroner was. Neighbors said that's because the tragedy did hit a home close by.
"I understand it's a neighbor," Bereitschaft said. "So it kind of impacts the neighborhood right here. It's just right up the street."
