There are some happy pet owners tonight after a scare when their beloved family dog fell through ice into a freezing-cold pond.
Nine-year-old Griffin was out for a walk with his family when he darted out onto the ice, hitting an thin patch, and fell through into the water. He was barely able to keep his head out of the water for the 15 minutes it took rescuers to get to him. Rescuers had to break the ice to make their way to the struggling dog, and pull him to safety.
It was a scary situation for Griffin’s family, especially Emma.
“I'm just really happy that he's still with us because he's really old,” Emma told FOX 17, “and I tried to break the ice, but it was too thick.”
“I was really scared. I ran back to the house and got the phone and, we just called the fire department and they came and rescued him, they're wonderful.”
Griffin is expected to be fine after his ordeal. He was wagging his tail as soon as he got out of the water.
