Child Abducted During Supervised Visit Found, Mother in Custody

ST. JOSEPH, Mich —

After a search for a missing girl, believed to be abducting during a visit by her mother, authorities are saying they've located the girl and her mom.

St. Joseph Department of Public Safety was looking for 2 year old Chloe Christina West, believed to be kidnapped by her mom, Lisa West. The two were having a supervised visit in the 500 block of Court Street in St. Joseph when it's believed that West left the residence with Chloe, without permission from Child Protective Services.

Friday afternoon, the Berrien County Sheriff's Office announced that Chloe was found safe and sound, with her mother, Lisa West, in Chicago, Illinois. West is currently awaiting extradition to Michigan where she will face a charge of parental kidnapping.

Chloe is returning to St. Joseph Friday and will be placed in the care of the Department of Human Services (DHS).

For those of you asking how it could have happend during a supervised visit, there are different levels of vistiation. Some "parents" are expected to have 100% supervision, in which a CPS person sits in the room the entire time. Other visits are "periodic supervision," in which the parent and child are allowed certain amounts of alone time. This alone time is only supposed to be for short periods of time, but if this mom planned this out, it would only take seconds. All she would have to do is say she was taking her to the restroom. Unfortunately, that will never be released due to privacy laws, but I hope this helps clear a few things up at least.

That being said, this mom should be ashamed of herself. It's obvious she shouldn't have the daughter based on the need for supervised visits. Do what the judge tells you, and maybe, just maybe, you might be able to see her more. Stunts like this only get her taken away for good.....which seems like it would be best anyway.

who ever was supposed to be supervising should be supervising themselves out of a job. there is usually a reason for not being able to be alone with your child! such a shame!

clearly if this was a supervised visit, the person doing the supervision needs to be talked too. They were NOT doing their job!
