(WSBT) The cold weather is here but a major local construction project is not done. That has some local drivers concerned.

Sandy Waggoner of South Bend has a Good Question: "When is the construction going to be complete on Jefferson Boulevard?"

If you work in construction you know the weather can make it difficult to say exactly when a project will be finished. But as of now the plan is to re-open a stretch of Jefferson in less than two weeks.

Fred Billet can't wait for the work to end. Billet says the lack of cars driving in front of his shop is hurting his car repair business.

“Oh it's fell off probably 20 - 25 percent. We don't have any traffic. No drive by traffic, hard to get in and out,” said Billet.

Mishawaka is re-making the stretch of Jefferson from Capital to Fir. A center turn lane is being added, along with curbs, sidewalks and a stoplight.

The plan is to stop construction December 15, and re-open the road, weather permitting. Then in the spring the road will be closed again when construction resumes.

The construction is right in front of Elinor Sharp's home, but she's taking the whole thing in stride.

“They're going to do it regardless. So you accept it and go on and think that it's a good positive thing,” said Sharp.

The entire project is scheduled to be finished in July. Fred Billet hopes at that point progress will start helping his business.

“Oh I think it will be real good when it's done, it looks nice,” Billet said.

It is a City of Mishawaka project. Eighty percent is locally financed, 20 percent comes from federal funds.
