It's not been the case lately, but this is the time of year when snow plows can become a common sight on roads.

That prompted Linda from Pulaski County to ask, "What are the laws about passing snow plows when they're plowing?"

Police write tickets for drivers who don't follow Indiana's "Move Over Law."

On a four lane highway, drivers are required to change lanes to avoid an emergency vehicle. If they can't do that, drivers must slow down.

But state police says there are not specific rules regarding snow plows. If you are passing a plow on a two lane road, normal passing rules apply.

You must not surpass the posted speed limit and you must be in a passing zone.

On a four lane road, police say the primary danger becomes passing a plow in a left lane that is likely not in as good of shape as the road the plow is working on.
