A bumpy ride for some local drivers should get better. But not before road construction leads to some traffic headaches.

WSBT wanted to follow up on a Good Question we answered about the railroad crossing on Mayflower Road in St. Joseph County.

We first did a Good Question on the Mayflower Road railroad crossing in October. It was bumpy then ... and it's bumpy now.

Canadian National controls the crossing and in October told us they planned to rebuild it in the spring.

Spring is here and a date is now set. Canadian National says weather permitting, construction will start April 28.

The crossing is being re-built, so Mayflower Road will close, but it's not clear for how long.

A St. Joseph County engineer says there have been numerous complaints about the crossing and the project is much needed.

Railroad companies control crossings — in this case it's Canadian National. That is why St. Joseph County has very little say in when and how the work is done.
