St. Joseph County homeowners only received one property tax bill last year instead of the usual two. The bills normally come in May and November.

Rick VanKlaveren of Granger wants to know, “Have this year's May tax bills been mailed out yet for St. Joseph County residents?”

This year's property tax bills have not been mailed out yet.

St. Joseph County Treasurer Sean Coleman says they will be delayed but he can't say for how long.

Coleman hopes to offer taxpayers some sort of mid-year payment to avoid a repeat of last year. That's when homeowners only received one bill.

As for why there is a delay, County Assessor Dave Wesolowski says the reassessments of property values from last year are still the problem now. Workers had to finish up last year's bills which delayed work on this year's.

Wesolowski is hoping for a July due date for the spring tax bill, but that's an estimate. He says bills need to be sent out at least a month beforehand.
