A week from Friday some of you will start receiving rebate money from the federal government.

Judy Richards of Argos wants to know, “If a person was married after January 1 of this year, does that affect the economic stimulus rebate package?”

The rebate check from the federal government is based on your 2007 tax return. So if you married after the New Year, you would be considered single and eligible for up to $600. But if you married as late as December 31, 2007 and you filed jointly as a couple, together you could be eligible for up to $1,200.

Of course, if you married this year you are still eligible for up to $1,200 between you and your new spouse anyway, it would just come in the form of two separate $600 checks.

If you're married with children you can receive an extra $300 per child.

Now for those of you who had your 2007 tax return directly deposited to your bank account, rebate money will start being deposited in accounts on May 2.

When checks are mailed out and directly deposited is based on social security numbers.
