Indiana's primary is less than a week away and the intense interest in the Democratic race for president has some voters considering different options.

Jay Moore of South Bend wants to know, "If you are registered with one party for the primary, can you change and vote the other ticket?"

In Indiana even if you're registered to vote as a Democrat or Republican you can switch parties for a day — primary day.

And switching may happen more often than normal this year because of the battle between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama — and John McCain has the Republican nomination locked up.

"What happens in a primary in the state of Indiana, you have to either ask for a Democrat ballot, or a Republican ballot," explained St. Joseph County Clerk Rita Glenn. "Even though you may be registered as a Democrat you can walk in and request a Republican ballot."

Political experts are now debating whether the many Republicans expected to vote Democrat on primary day will have any significance come November.

“You've seen a sharp increase in people saying they plan to vote Democratic," said Sean Savage, political science professor at Saint Mary's College. "I think also here in Indiana there may be some degree of dissatisfaction among Republican and Republican leaning independents in John McCain."

But we will not know until November if a large number of Republicans voting in the Democratic primary will also vote Democrat in the general election.

Remember, early voting for Indiana's primary continues until the day before the election.
