Global Positioning System, or GPS (WSBT photo)

If you're driving out of town for this holiday weekend, you may have to use a Global Positioning System or GPS to figure out exactly where you're going.

But what if your destination doesn't appear in the system?

Connie Egan of South Bend has a Good Question: How do we get our little villa community of 20 homes on GPS?

WSBT's Kirk Mason has the answer.

It's a voice many use to get them where they're going, and we're not talking about a spouse or the guy at the gas station. It's a GPS.

But what if you have to explain directions to everyone because your home isn't on GPS? What do you do?

Right now some at a villa community in St. Joseph County say they're not on GPS.

But there's a relatively simple solution on the Internet. Two companies called NAVTEQ and Tele Atlas are the mapping companies responsible for the information used on GPS systems. Just go to their websites and type in your information to see if your address is already available, or to update their information.
