What is the current policy for bringing firewood into state parks?
The Department of Natural Resources doesn't allow anyone to bring firewood into state parks from a county that has been quarantined due to the presence of the Emerald Ash Borer. (WSBT photo) Besides fireworks, another Fourth of July tradition for many people is a trip to the state parks. Linda from LaPorte asked, "What is the current policy for bringing firewood into state parks?" The Department of Natural Resources doesn't allow anyone to bring firewood into the parks from a quarantined county. Those are counties where the DNR located the Emerald Ash Borer in the area. These insects already destroyed millions of Ash trees in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Right now, the entire state of Michigan is under quarantine. In Indiana, several counties are quarantined, including St. Joseph, Elkhart, LaGrange, Steuben, Noble and Porter counties in our area. So, bringing firewood from a county that isn't on that list is OK. However, you must burn all of your firewood before leaving the park. Most Popular
