Why do I still get solicitation calls when I am on the Do Not Call List?by Kirk Mason (mason@wsbt.com)
We've all been there. You're just sitting down to eat dinner when the phone rings and it's one of those annoying telemarketer calls. Indiana has a Do Not Call List you can be on to try and avoid the interruptions. Jennifer Hayes of Mishawaka says she's on the list, but occasionally gets pre-recorded solicitations. She asked a Good Question: “Are there any additional precautions I can take to stop those types of calls?” WSBT's Kirk Mason looked into it. If the phone is ringing and you don't want it to, keep in mind that under Indiana's Do Not Call List some solicitation phone calls are still allowed. The Indiana Attorney General's Office said licensed insurance and real estate agents can still call, as can newspapers that are using employees or volunteers to try to renew subscriptions. Charitable organizations can also call. If you think someone is calling who doesn't fall under one of those categories, you can file a complaint with the Indiana Attorney General's Office. Currently, that office has gone after 233 companies through both state and federal court. To report a call to the Attorney General, you can call 1-800-382-5516. You can also go to the Indiana Consumer website. Most Popular
