SOUTH BEND — The switch to digital is just a few weeks away, and some people are using it as a reason to upgrade their TVs to high-definition.

A viewer emailed us a Good Question: “What is the proper way to dispose of an old television?”

Televisions are not banned from landfills, so you can put them out with your trash; but they are not biodegradable. So St. Joseph County Waste Management has a better option. They have a facility on 5th Street in Mishawaka where they take in large electronic devices that are taken to Chicago to be de-manufactured.

It does cost $12 to drop off something like a television or a computer; they take handheld devices for free.

For more information you can call Waste Management at 235-9971.
