ARGOS — This tough economy is putting the brakes on a plan that would mean new jobs and millions of dollars for local government.

Julia Kay Grzesiak of Argos has a Good Question about a proposed bio-diesel plant for Fulton County: "Is there any news about when this plant will break ground for construction?"

WSBT's Kirk Mason found out, at least for now, there are no plans to break ground.

Just late last year 32 acres of land was bought in Fulton County near a landfill close to the Marshall County border. The land is supposed to be used for a new bio-diesel plant. The plan already has government approval; all that's left now is for it to be built.

But Shane Blair from Fulton County Economic Development says, for now, the plan is on hold. He says the economy is the problem — investors aren't lending money for a project like this.

Blair says they are still looking for ways to find financing, including federal grant money from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The project would employ about 25 people and would be a $25 million investment for Fulton County.

Last March, county commissioners re-zoned the 32 acres in Fulton County to make room for the plant.
