How do I find out when my refund is coming?

During these tough times, so many of you are budgeting right down to every nickel and dime. That makes it very tough when you're not receiving money you had counted on.

Jean Grontkowski of South Bend has Good Question. She already received her federal refund check, but she wants to know when Indiana is going to send it to her.

Kirk Mason explains how you can find out.

Each year Indiana's Department of Revenue encourages taxpayers to file their returns electronically.

Stephanie McFarland says 99.9 percent of those returns are filed accurately, while one in five paper returns report mistakes.

April 15 has already come and gone. If you filed electronically, you should probably already have your refund. But if you filed through the mail, it can take between 6 to 12 weeks.

Indiana's Department of Revenue allows you to check the status of a state refund. You can log onto their web site and type in your Social Security number and the amount of the refund you are expecting to get.

It will tell you if the check is already in the mail, or if it's been directly deposited into your bank account. Click on "Your Taxes: Helpful Links" in the Related Content box.

You can also call the department for the latest on your return at 317-232-2240.
