ST. JOSEPH CO. — A big headache for St. Joseph County drivers is about to go away.

Mary of Granger asks a Good Question: When will Bittersweet Road and Day Road open?

WSBT's Kirk Mason found the answer.

For 63 days — just over two months — the Day Road and Bittersweet Road intersection has been closed.

It might have been back open by Thursday if not for Wednesday's rainy forecast.

All that's left is a day for asphalt and a day to stripe the roads, so weather permitting the intersection could re-open before the end of this week.

That intersection sits near busy Penn High School with its more than 2,000 students. That's created plenty of traffic trouble over the years.

The newly re-built intersection will include two left turn lanes — not having them in the past created long backups. There will also now be a stoplight, and what was a crooked intersection has been straightened out.

Drivers will just have to wait a little longer before using it.
