MISHAWAKA — It's supposed to be a key part of future development in downtown Mishawaka. But if you drive by Beutter Park, you may notice a brand new, but still empty, building.

Tasha from Mishawaka has a Good Question: What is going on with the new building at Beutter Park in Mishawaka?

WSBT's Kirk Mason looked into it.

When the old Uniroyal plant came down, the city of Mishawaka replaced it with the beautiful new Beutter Park. A new building was built next to the park, with big plans for development. But so far those plans have not materialized.

City Planner Ken Prince says at one point a restaurant was planned for at least part of the building but financing fell through.

We did contact the building's developer — Prime Development Corporation. Vice President Dennis Murphy wrote in an e-mail: "We currently do not have any information to share openly at this time but once we have some things finalized we will notify you at the appropriate time.”

That sounds like something may be in the works.

Mishawaka City Planner Ken Prince says the developer is paying taxes on the building, so the city is taking in money.
