SOUTH BEND — If you are a bike rider, a runner or a walker, it is a path of great interest in South Bend.

Llody Grady of South Bend has a Good Question: “Why is it taking so long to finish the path along the river by IU South Bend?”

With summer finally here, so many of us want to be outside. So it's understandable that there is some impatience about this still unfinished path along the St. Joseph River near IU South Bend.

Carl Littrell, city engineer for the city of South Bend, says right now work is wrapping up on a 2,200-foot section of path from the Twyckenham Bridge. He says the work will be done by the end of July.

When that happens, South Bend will have 11 miles of path done from IU South Bend to Darden Road.

But there is still a missing one-mile stretch from Logan to Darden.

Because of money problems, Littrell says he doesn't know when that might be done.

The basic rule for paths in South Bend is anything without a motor can use them, so rollerbladers are also welcome.
