One in every three women will die from cardiovascular disease, according to the American Heart Association.

That's why local women were encouraged to "love their hearts" at a luncheon Thursday at South Bend's Century Center.

Doctors and other heart disease experts presented information about heart disease in women.

The main goal of the luncheon was to raise awareness about the silent killer.

"I think you need to talk to your family,” said Kathy Ann Reinhardt. “We don't talk. Women tend to ignore their health because they're too busy taking care of their kids and their husbands. I think you need just to be more aware."

To find out your risk of developing heart disease within 10 years, you can get your own heart checkup online. Click the link in the Related Content box called “Go Red for Women Heart Checkup."
