Valley residents took time to show U.S. Border Patrol agents gratitude Thursday as part of National Border Patrol Appreciation Day.

Members of the Alliance of Border Patrol Wives sent baked goods to different stations “to show our appreciation for all their hard work and dedication,” Alliance member Giovanna said. Her family asked that her last name be withheld due to safety concerns.

The national group has a private Facebook page where they communicate with each other and share stories.

“We decided to do this for our spouses not only because they deserve it but because of the recent talks of pay cuts,” she explained. “We want them to know we love and support them. We will stand by them 110 percent.”

This was the effort’s first year, with about 15 to 20 stations involved.

“We hope by next time all the stations are involved,” Giovanna added.

“It’s important that the agents know that their families, friends and communities support their efforts to protect the border. They put their lives on the line every day. We want them to know that we appreciate their hard work.”

More than 1,300 people are employed at the El Centro Patrol Sector.
