WESTLAKE, LOS ANGELES -- A pursuit of a kidnapping suspect ended with a head-on crash Thursday, killing the alleged kidnapping victim.
Police received a report around 8 a.m. of a woman being grabbed off the sidewalk near 6th and Bixel streets.
Officers spotted the suspect and victim in a black GMC Yukon and a pursuit ensued.
At times, the woman could be seen hanging out the window and waving at the officers, said LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith.
The pursuit lasted about a mile before the suspect's vehicle collided head-on with a Volvo.
The suspect took off running after the crash, but he was eventually taken into custody.
The woman was rushed to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Volvo suffered minor injuries, Smith said.
The relationship between the suspect and the victim has not been determined.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was booked for murder.
