The Victorville Daily Press reports 34-year-old Kenneth Amaya Jr. was arguing with his wife on the side of the road when he got into his GMC Yukon and ran over her.
His wife was was airlifted to a hospital, with serious injuries.
About an hour later, CHP officers say Amaya was driving at high-speed on Interstate 15 when he lost control of the SUV.
He veered to the right and crashed into a metal guardrail, CHP spokesman Leon Lopez told the Daily Press.
The car continued through the barrier and rolled down a steep embankment
Amaya, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was ejected during the crash and killed.
