CYPRESS ( KTLA ) -- Another motorcycle cop has been injured during a funeral procession for a fellow law enforcement officer.

Hundreds of family, friends and fellow officers crowded into Seacoast Grace Church to pay their respects to 44-year-old Andrew Garton.

During Garton's funeral procession Friday afternoon a motorcycle officer from Cypress Police Department was injured in a crash on Lincoln Avenue and Cobblestone Lane, two blocks away from the funeral.

The officer, who was monitoring traffic in the area for the procession, was on his way back to the station when he was hit by a pick-up truck around 5:30 p.m. after the motorcade ended.

The woman driving the white GMC truck turned into the officer, who has not been identified.

He has been taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital with moderate trauma injuries.

He has been with the department for four years and has been a motorcycle officer for one, police sources said.

The woman driving the pick-up will not be charged.

Last Thursday, Garton was thrown from his bike into traffic after a collision with another officer near the intersection of Hawthorne and Sepulveda.

Garton was part of the funeral procession for Manhattan Beach police officer Mark Vasquez who died after a battle with cancer.

Both officers were taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where Garton, a 7-year veteran of the department, later died of his injuries.

He leaves behind a wife and two sons, ages 7 and 12.

Garton is the first Hawthorne police officer to be killed in the line of duty, Hawthorne police Chief Robert Fager said.

The other officer, from El Segundo PD is identified as Sgt. Rex Fowler.

He remains hospital with a broken leg.

Fowler is a traffic and animal control sergeant who has been on the force for more than 20 years.

The officers were engaged in what's called 'leapfrogging,' during which motor officers handling traffic control during funeral processions block traffic at alternating intersections.

When the procession passes the last officer, he races up to the front of the procession to block the next intersection.

Garton and Fowler collided head-on in the southbound lanes of Hawthorne Boulevard, according to witnesses.
