The Alaska House of Representatives has issued a statement saying that the Boy Scouts of America should be allowed to continue upholding their "core values and beliefs."

The Sense of the House, by Republican Rep. Bill Stoltze of Chugiak, says the Boy Scouts is an institution that has become a fabric of the nation. It says the organization is a "standard-bearer" for the development of young men in Alaska and the United States.

The Boy Scouts of America has put off until May a decision on whether to ease its policy of excluding gays.

Democratic Rep. Max Gruenberg, a former Boy Scout and Eagle Scout, said he hopes the organization would solve the problem in a way "true to the Scout oath."
