Clean-up buckets requested for Midwest flood recovery

ELKHART — The nonprofit relief agency Church World Service is asking the public to put together buckets with clean-up supplies to help Midwest communities recover from flooding.

From now until July 30, Church World Service will accept the buckets with supplies from 8a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at its office at 28606 Phillips St.

The buckets also are used after a range of storms, from tornado to hurricane.

The bucket should include: one five-gallon bucket with resealable lid, five scouring pads, seven sponges of assorted sizes; one scrub brush, 18 reusable cleaning towels like Easy Wipes, one 50- to 78-ounce box of dry laundry detergent, one 12-ounce bottle of liquid concentrated household cleaner (like Lysol), one 25-ounce bottle of liquid disinfectant dish soap, 50 clothes pins, a clothes line (two at 50 feet or one at 100 feet), five dust masks, two pairs of latex gloves, one pair of work gloves, a 24-bag roll of heavy-duty trash bags (33-45 gallons) and one 6- to 14-ounce bottle of insect repellent (drops or lotion, not aerosol).

Everything should be packed securely and the lid sealed with packing tape.

After July 30, the buckets may be shipped to Church World Service, Brethren Service Center Annex, 601 Main St., P.O. Box 188, New Windsor, MD 21776-0188. (Include both P.O. box and address.)
